Brad Lander Launches Progressive Bid for New York’s 10th Congressional District

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander has announced his candidacy for Congress in New York’s 10th District, challenging incumbent Representative Dan Goldman in the Democratic primary. Lander, who served 12 years on the City Council and co-founded its Progressive Caucus, introduced his campaign with a video highlighting his record in public service and advocacy for immigrant rights.

In his announcement, Lander emphasized the need for strong progressive leadership in Congress. “While the oligarchy drives an affordability crisis, they shouldn’t be able to buy a seat in Congress. While our neighbors are being demonized and attacked, we can put our bodies on the line to protect them,” he said. The campaign video, which includes animated sequences and footage of Lander’s arrest while observing immigration court proceedings, also portrays him in a more approachable, community-focused light.

Lander has received the endorsement of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who praised him for his “unwavering principles, deep knowledge, and sincere empathy,” and emphasized that he has been a trusted ally and partner, expressing confidence that Lander will continue delivering for those who need government support the most.

Lander’s entry marks a significant challenge from the progressive wing of the party, as other Democrats in the district consider campaigns of their own. With endorsements and a track record of activism, Lander aims to unify progressive voters and offer a distinct alternative to the incumbent in next year’s primary.
